What is it?

Windsurf is Codeium’s AI-driven IDE that lets users adopt agentic workflows with minimal setup. Windsurf is a fork of VS Code, so its IDE-related capabilities are quite strong. Since it has AI tools built directly into the IDE, it’s a little better optimized than VS Code with AI extensions.

What can I use it for?

  • Rapid prototyping: Start from scratch with a prompt and work with Windsurf to build it step-by-step
  • AI pair programming: Write code, get feedback, ask Windsurf to refactor, etc.
  • Agentic workflowsn: Define a series of repeatable tasks and Windsurf will execute
  • Docs: Generate docs from your code and previous prompts

What we like about it

Agentic dev workflows feel a lot more natural and less clunky, since Windsurf is an all-in-one AI IDE platform. We also appreciated how simple it was to vibe code an application from scratch.

Unlike many other agentic dev tools, Windsurf made it really simple to run programs by keystroke, and analyze any failure logs. This was helpful context for fixing issues, and we found it was a frustrating pain point in some more “disconnected” tools.
